Brand Strategy, Design Development

Client: Molecule AG

Brand development, strategic positioning and visual system design for Molecule, a pioneering biotech and web3 protocol focused on transforming the way scientific research is funded, governed and commercialised. The project spanned a vast and highly complex ecosystem of products, stakeholders and technical requirements, requiring a brand system capable of scaling across infrastructure, investment, research and commerce.

The project articulates Molecule’s ambitious vision for the future of decentralised science through a design language that feels intelligent, credible and enduring, balancing the energy of emergent technology with a refined and timeless visual narrative designed to attract both blockchain builders and scientists alike, to participate in a nascent ecosystem of products, projects, and alternative ways to develop frontier scientific IP.

Brand Standards

The brand standards manual was developed as a long-term strategic framework for a rapidly evolving organisation operating at the forefront of decentralised science. In a company defined by constant growth, experimentation and expanding product complexity, the challenge was to create guidelines that could support evolution without losing coherence or identity. The system was designed to keep Molecule’s core values, visual principles and strategic foundations firmly anchored, while allowing the brand enough flexibility to continually adapt, expand and mature alongside the company’s pioneering vision.

3D Illustration

Developed in collaboration with Kodi Studio, the 3D artwork system was conceived as a “Rube Goldberg machine for science” — an intricate, interconnected world that visualised the complex mechanics of Molecule’s ecosystem. The work explored themes of market creation, laboratory experimentation, research funding and scientific commercialisation through a series of dynamic chain reactions, abstract instruments and modular systems. The resulting visual language balances technical precision with a sense of momentum and discovery, capturing the perpetual motion and collaborative complexity at the heart of decentralised science.

The Molecule Brand in Use

Molecule LABS

The Molecule identity was extended into a dedicated light-mode interface for LABS, designed to emphasise the platform’s scientific and research-oriented character. Targeted primarily at scientists and researchers, the product drew inspiration from laboratory software, medical interfaces and scientific tooling, using a brighter and more clinical visual environment to contrast the darker, more infrastructural tone of Molecule’s blockchain and protocol products.

The product design system implementation was developed by Jeanne Fourie.

MIRA

The branding for MIRA, Molecule’s AI agent, was designed to express a distinct and intelligent personality while remaining firmly connected to the wider Molecule ecosystem. Inspired in part by the iconic visual language of HAL 9000, the identity introduced a more character-driven aesthetic through subtle use of light, motion and symbolism, while still adhering to the core principles of the Molecule brand system.
